About

Hi there! Welcome to Marillenbaum.

Just what is Marillenbaum? Good question! It’s the Austrian German word for “apricot tree”, which I love for several reasons. First, it shows my love of Austria (where I spent a semester in college, and will be returning to in the fall on a Fulbright Grant) and Austrian dialect, which I think is a little more whimsical. Secondly, I am a Mormon, and one of my favorite LDS children’s songs growing up was “Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree”. It just came together so well, I couldn’t not use it.

While this blog does handle all of my Fulbright-related drama, it isn’t just about preparing to move overseas. It has book reviews, recommendations for various forms of pop culture, opinion pieces, and incidents from my life (any exaggeration the unintended side effect of a theatrical disposition). So, please: pull up a seat. Get cozy. Have some tea. And welcome!

Alles Liebe,

Victoria
